Morning Quotes

April 10, 2009

Isn’t the border fence shovel-ready?

Obama and his minions will be blaming President Bush for EVERYTHING ’till their dying breath.

“Under my plan of a cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket” — Barack H. Obama

During the campaign, a fellow journalist confided that “I know Obama is a Manchurian candidate, I just can’t figure out what for.” — Michael Goodwin

“You’ll note that politicians no longer spend money, they invest it. Don’t worry about paying more to the [IRS]. You aren’t being taxed; you’re taking a plunge on a fly-by-night stock issue.” — P.J. O’Rourke

“There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it. A politician who portrays himself as “caring” and “sensitive” because he wants to expand the government’s charitable programs is merely saying that he’s willing to try to do good with other people’s money. Well, who isn’t? And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he’ll do good with his own money — if a gun is held to his head.” — P.J. O’Rourke

“There’s nothing like a dead body found in a pool of someone else’s blood.” — Leslie Bates

“Wearing a Che shirt in a free nation is as disgusting as wearing a Heinrich Himmler shirt in Tel Aviv.” — Leslie Bates

“In other words, under Attorney General John Ashcroft, the FBI, the INS and the Department of Justice are so out of control that they have actually begun to enforce U.S. immigration laws.” — Ann Coulter

“The exact same people who are now demanding prison for Libby for not remembering who told him about Plame are the ones who told us it was perfectly plausible for Bill Clinton to forget that Monica Lewinsky repeatedly performed oral sex on him in the Oval Office. Even if chubby Jewish brunettes aren’t your type, be honest: Which of the two events would stand out more in your memory?” — Ann Coulter

“Because of the industrialization of agriculture — using massive amounts of fossil fuel — only 2 percent of Americans work in farming. And yet they produce enough food to feed all 300 million Americans, with plenty left over for export. When are liberals going to break the news to their friends in Darfur that they all have to starve to death to save the planet?” — Ann Coulter

“Gun bans don’t disarm criminals, gun bans attract them.” — Walter Mondale, U.S. Ambassador to Japan, 4/20/94

“If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.” — Arkansas Supreme Court, 1878

“Communism and socialism is seductive. It promises us that people will contribute according to ability and receive according to needs. Everybody is equal. Everybody has a right to decent housing, decent food and affordable medical care. History should have taught us that when we hear people talk this stuff — watch out!” — Walter Williams

“The modern definition of ‘racist’ is someone who is winning an argument with a liberal.” — Peter Brimelow, [and others] National Review 02/01/93

“The Constitution is not neutral. It was designed to take the government off the backs of people.” — William O. Douglas

“You can count on a few things in this world. The swallows will return to Capistrano. Salmon will spawn. Canada’s geese will fly south for the winter. And tax cuts will create growth” — Investor’s Business Daily

“Saddam Hussein’s continued life is more of a problem than Osama bin Laden’s,” — former Clinton Secretary of State Madeline Albright, Christian Science Monitor, November 2003

Annoy a Leftist: Think!

Quote of the Day

Quote of the Day:

“Remember: The guy who’s trying to nationalize industry and start his own youth corps isn’t the fascist. That was the previous occupant.” — Jim Treacher

By way of Cold Fury:

“The most dangerous place in America is between a Clinton and their ambition.”

Stray Quotes

From my collection:

“Peace Activists” always seem to demonstrate where it’s safe, in America.
Why don’t we see Peace Activist demonstrating in Iran, Syria, Iraq, Sudan, North Korea, in the places in the world that really need peace activism the most?
— Raymond S. Kraft

HELP THE WORLD’S POOR… Ban Socialism. Unban DDT.

“It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that’s pretty important.” — Martin Luther King Jr.

“My personal credo as a libertarian conservative: I think all attempts to reform your fellow-citizens or tell them how to live their lives are arrogant and tyrannical. THAT’S why I oppose Leftism. I want people to be free to manage their own lives. “Reform” is just authoritarianism. People are not playthings for anybody’s theories or obsessions.” — John Ray, M.A., Ph.D.

let’s face it: nothing says “we value civil liberties” more than smoking bans, the surrender of private enterprise to a massive centrally-controlled government, municipal usurpation of private property to feed the common weal, and non-denominational holidays stripped of their celebratory cores and presented as simple, non-offensive husks, their blinking colored lights a reminder that even the most profoundly held beliefs can be reduced to low-wattage, community-approved superficiality — Jeff Goldstein on liberals.

The western Left didn’t give a tinker’s damn for the fates of the Iranians, Lebanese, Nicaraguans, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Koreans, Cubans, Czechs, Hungarians, Poles, or even Russians, so long as the eeeevil American right-wingers were dealt a political defeat (and let’s not even start on Israelis).
Why should anybody be surprised thay they could now care less about Iraqis? — Will Collier

“To translate it into UNIX system administration terms … the post-modern, politically correct atheists were like people who had suddenly found themselves in charge of a big and unfathomably complex computer system (viz. society) with no documentation or instructions of any kind, and so whose only way to keep the thing running was to invent and enforce certain rules with a kind of neo-Puritanical rigor, because they were at a loss to deal with any deviations from what they saw as the norm. Whereas people who were wired into a church were like UNIX system administrators who, while they might not understand everything, at least had some documentation, some FAQs and How-tos and README files, providing some guidance on what to do when things got out of whack. They were, in other words, capable of displaying adaptability.” — Cryptonomicon

“We want one class to have a liberal education. We want another class, a very much larger class of necessity, to forgo the privilege of a liberal education and fit themselves to perform specific difficult manual tasks.” — democrat and former US President Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924) addressing a group of businessmen shortly before WWI.

Today’s Quotes

Ace nailing the democrat policy.

“Perhaps this will get the troop death rate up to a level the Democrats are happier with.”

Glenn Reynolds on the BBC

Because nothing says “journalistic detachment” like helping terrorists brush up on their fire-and-movement skills.

Global Village Idiot

I find it ironically amusing that “our” puritans come not from the “Moral Majority,” but from the radical secular left. Radical feminists try to take the fun out of sex; radical eco-nutters try to take the fun out of a walk in the woods; radical vegans try to take the fun out of dinner, and so forth.

Dave in Texas

Communism has certainly been working on its image over the last 20 years, hasn’t it? It’s been repackaged as the First Church of Climate Crisis and Care.

A faith-based initiative.

Morning quotes.

November 30, 2007

“Look at the word “tolerance.” It used to mean “put up with.” You don’t have to like someone or something, but you accepted it and didn’t put up too much of a fuss. Now, if you express the slightest measure of disapproval, you’re labeled as “intolerant” and “hateful” and “bigoted.” — Jay Tea

“In the QUAGMIRE! that is Iraq according to Dems, deaths have been dropping. Citizens have been returning. Progress is being made, and victory is inevitable, if Democratic leaders will only let us achieve it.” — Cassy Fiano

“JUST HEARD A LENGTHY NPR STORY ON THE YOUTUBE DEBATE, with a live followup from Mara Liasson — and it omitted any mention of the planted question issue. Hmm. If Fox hosted a Democratic debate and many of the most pointed questions turned out to come from Republican activists, but Fox didn’t disclose that, do you think it would pass unremarked?” — Glenn Reynolds

Hillary Supports the 2nd Amendment…
The way Bill supports monogamy.

I suppose it depends on what the meaning of “supports” is. You’ll know she has made the complete transition to Evita if she ever says she “supports” the Constitution.

Bob Leibowitz

Morning Quotes

November 5, 2007

“In U.S. politics, ‘compassion’ means giving money and privileges to well organized interest groups at everyone else’s expense.” — Paul Craig Roberts

“Can the real Constitution be restored? Probably not. Too many Americans depend on government money under programs the Constitution doesn’t authorize, and money talks with an eloquence Shakespeare could only envy. Ignorant people don’t understand The Federalist Papers, but they understand government checks with their names on them.” — Joseph Sobran

“The Constitution is like my old blue dress … it doesn’t fit anymore.” — Rep. Ellen Tauscher, (democrat, California)

“As I have stood in the crosshairs of those who target Second Amendment freedoms, I’ve realized that firearms are not the only issue. No, it’s much, much bigger than that. I’ve come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated.” — Charlton Heston

“The modern definition of ‘racist’ is someone who is winning an argument with a liberal.” — Peter Brimelow, [and others] National Review 02/01/93

“Today the old-fashioned liberal pretension of equality is dead. Replacing it is naked power and the use of government to protect and expand the privileged status of the Democratic Party and its courtiers and constituents. Liberals have become reactionaries, behaving as kings did centuries ago by robbing their opponents to reward their vassals. Liberals now believe that the main purpose of government is to play favorites, to bring down their foes and give privileges to their friends.” — Lowell Ponte

“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” — Thomas Jefferson

“Whoever claims the right to redistribute the wealth produced by others is claiming the right to treat human beings as chattel.” — Ayn Rand

“You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age-old dream — the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order — or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path. Plutarch warned, ‘The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits.'” — President Ronald Reagan

If “Iraq” is Arabic for “Vietnam” then “Vietnam” is Lefty for “hippie mid-life crisis”. — Protest Warrior

“Moore’s only concession to the Democrats’ role-playing is to deny that he is a Democrat, hoping enough Americans were taught by public school teachers that no one will know how to look up Moore’s voter registration card. (“Democrat.”)” — Ann Coulter

[T]he UN’s mission — as seen by many of its members – is not to solve threats to peace, but to constrain the United States from pursuing its interests.

“Communism doesn’t work because people like to own stuff.” — Frank Zappa

“May we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.” — Dwight D. Eisenhower

“To say that the lack of gun control is “killing our citizens” is like saying stores are the reason there are shoplifters.” — Jay Lundgren

“Our strategy was to use the Fairness Doctrine to challenge and harass right-wing broadcasters and hope that the challenges would be so costly to them that they would be inhibited and decide it was too expensive to continue.” — Bill Ruder, John F. Kennedy’s assistant secretary of commerce

“There’s a kind of decadence about all this: If 9/11 was really an inside job, you wouldn’t be driving around with a bumper sticker bragging that you were on to it. Fantasy is a by-product of security: it’s the difference between hanging upside down in your dominatrix’s bondage parlor after work on Friday and enduring the real thing for years on end in Saddam’s prisons….” — Mark Steyn

“In the West, they study the Goran.” — Tim Blair

“Slick Willy didn’t sell his soul to the devil, he married into the family.”

Dr William Gray, a pioneer in the science of seasonal hurricane forecasts, told a packed lecture hall at the University of North Carolina that humans were not responsible for the warming of the earth.
[…]
“We’re brainwashing our children,” said Dr Gray, 78, a long-time professor at Colorado State University. “They’re going to the Gore movie [An Inconvenient Truth] and being fed all this. It’s ridiculous.”

Dr Gray, whose annual forecasts of the number of tropical storms and hurricanes are widely publicised, said a natural cycle of ocean water temperatures – related to the amount of salt in ocean water – was responsible for the global warming that he acknowledges has taken place.

However, he said, that same cycle meant a period of cooling would begin soon and last for several years.
“We’ll look back on all of this in 10 or 15 years and realise how foolish it was,” Dr Gray said.

“The post-Vietnam Left is effective because of its deceitful layering of the apparatus through which it works and also because it has found a way to support totalitarian movements while appearing to be interested in improving America’s international morality. It’s techniques of dissimulation and dissinformation have worked.” — David Horowitz

“If we institute HillaryCare, there will be no place left for Canadians to get health care.” — Rudy Giuliani

“Free speech for me, but not for thee–the motto of the left.” — Rand Simberg
