Fun times ahead in Denver

August 24, 2008

Politico reports that the Obama-Clinton feud is back in swing.

One senior Obama supporter said the Clinton associates negotiating on her behalf act like “Japanese soldiers in the South Pacific still fighting after the war is over.”

A prominent Obama backer said some of Clinton’s lieutentants negotiating with the Obama team are “bitter enders” who presume that, rather than the Clintons reconciling themselves to Obama’s victory, it is up to Obama to accommodate them.

In fact, some senior veterans of Clinton’s presidential campaign do believe this.

“He has not fully reconciled,” said one political operative close to the Clintons, “and he has not demonstrated that he accepts the Clintons and the Clinton wing of the party.”

Two Clinton Scenarios

May 12, 2008

Jay Severin reviews two possible scenarios for Hillary Rodham Clinton‘s actions.

SCENARIO ONE (drops out prior to convention):

As recorded here several weeks ago, H Clinton will stay in long enough (as many primaries as she can win/pain inflict on opponent) to Drive The Best Deal She Can…and that means creating maximum leverage, cutting the deal(s), then dropping out.

SCENARIO TWO (goes to convention) :

Satan Stays In.
Because she believes
she can win enough remaining primaries to change momentum/perception.

Scenario #1 requires enormous guts, determination and the soul of a contract killer.
Scenario #2 requires shamelessness possessed only by a sociopath.

Either way, no problem!

She’s still in the race

May 7, 2008

Well, Barak did beat HRC in North Carolina by over 10%. Hillary Rodham Clinton isn’t taking the hint though. She squeaked by in Indiana and gave a speech today saying that she is staying in the race. She is pushing to get the Michigan and Florida races counted, despite their knowingly breaking the DNC rules.

A lot of DNC officials would like her to drop out, for the good of the party.
Reality check time, she’s a Clinton, neither Hillary or Bill have ever put the good of the party ahead of their personal ambitions. She’ll drop out only if she runs completely out of money (not likely) or the party offers her something to make it worth her while to do so.

Update: Mr. Reynolds points out that Ted Kennedy went to the convention in 1980 with a lot smaller share of the vote.

Quote of the day

By way of Cold Fury:

“The most dangerous place in America is between a Clinton and their ambition.”

Bill Clinton linked to Communist Chinese crackdowns in Tibet

April 13, 2008

According to the LA Times, “A firm that has donated to the president’s charity is accused of collaborating with the government in its crackdown on Tibetan activists.”

File under hardly surprising. Billy Jeff Clinton has never had a problem taking money from the Communist Chinese government before. At least now he isn’t handing over US Military secrets for the cash.

Paglia nails Hillary

April 9, 2008

Camille Paglia sums up Clintonism:

The compulsive war-room mentality of both Clintons is neurosis writ large. The White House should not be a banging, rocking washer perpetually stuck on spin cycle. Many Democrats, including myself, have come to doubt whether Hillary has any core values or even a stable sense of identity. With her outlandish fibbing and naive self-puffery, her erratic day-to-day changes of tone and message, her glassy, fixed smiles, and her leaden and embarrassingly unpresidential jokes about pop culture, she has started to seem like one of those manic, seductively vampiric patients in trashy old Hollywood hospital flicks like “The Snake Pit.” How anyone could confuse Hillary’s sourly cynical, male-bashing megalomania with authentic feminism is beyond me.

Pay attention to the details…

April 5, 2008

The Clintons released their tax returns. No mention if they are still counting used underwear as charitable deductions. It is interesting that all of their charitable contributions “went to a family foundation run by the Clintons that has given away only about half of the money they put into it, and most of that was last year, after Mrs. Clinton declared her candidacy,” according to the NY Times.

I don’t advise you try that trick at home kids.

When the Clintons talk about the “Wealthiest Americans” and how they need to pay “their fair share”, they are looking squarely in the mirror. Their combined income of $109 million over the past eight years put the Clintons to be “in the top one-hundredth of 1 percent, or roughly 14,500, of all taxpayers.”

I called it.

March 30, 2008

I have been saying that Hillary Rodham Clinton was going to take the fight to the primary all the way to the convention floor if she had to.

…and it appears she is. OK, not a hard call given her history of destroying anyone who got in her way, sense of entitlement, and raw naked lust for power. I apologize for using the words “naked” and “lust” in a sentence about HRC.

The MSM is finally catching up to me. The Washington Post has a story about HRC vowing to stay in the race.

In her most definitive comments to date on the subject, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton sought Saturday to put to rest any notion that she will drop out of the presidential race, pledging in an interview to not only compete in all the remaining primaries but also continue until there is a resolution of the disqualified results in Florida and Michigan.

“I know there are some people who want to shut this down and I think they are wrong,” Clinton said in an interview during a campaign stop here Saturday. “I have no intention of stopping until we finish what we started and until we see what happens in the next 10 contests and until we resolve Florida and Michigan. And if we don’t resolve it, we’ll resolve it at the convention — that’s what credentials committees are for.

One of those “people” is the DNC Chairman Howard Dean. He just got a spot on Hillary’s enemies list.

My Way News also has a story on the subject
.

If Hillary Rodham Clinton is feeling heat from pundits and party elders to quit the race and back Barack Obama, you’d never know it from her crowds, energy level and upbeat demeanor on the campaign trail.

“There are millions of reasons to continue this race: people in Pennsylvania, Indiana and North Carolina, and all of the contests yet to come,” Clinton told reporters Friday. “This is a very close race and clearly I believe strongly that everyone should have their voices heard and their votes counted.”

I’m looking forward to a long a bloody campaign between HRC and the other unexperienced far left extremist liberal democrat with plans to destroy the US economy, Barak Obama.

Taking the party down with her

March 28, 2008

As I have, and many others, have said, HRC isn’t giving up as long as there is a slim, sliver of a chance of her getting access to the Oval Office. She’s been planning her Socialist Police State for a long time, and isn’t going to let some former State Senator from a flyover state stop her. Some democrat pundits have tossed around the “Tanya Harding” option. There is where Hillary effectively “kneecaps” Obama in order to take him out of the race (although, Obama’s spiritual adviser seems to being that for her). If that tears the party in half, she’s OK with that. Because in her view, she’s more important than the party.

Peggy Noonan sums it up well:

“What, really, is Mrs. Clinton doing? She is having the worst case of cognitive dissonance in the history of modern politics. She cannot come up with a credible, realistic path to the nomination. She can’t trace the line from “this moment’s difficulties” to “my triumphant end.” But she cannot admit to herself that she can lose. Because Clintons don’t lose. She can’t figure out how to win, and she can’t accept the idea of not winning. She cannot accept that this nobody from nowhere could have beaten her, quietly and silently, every day.”

Listen, I can feel her pain. She’s spent thirty years sticking with a horny hillbilly in order to build her resume. Obama is coming along with no resume, no background, just empty slogans that the useful idiots are swallowing whole and claiming how filling they are.

This must be driving her crazy. She’s been planning and plotting her path to the Presidency for decades. She will do whatever it takes to win, the democrat party and voters be damned. Personally, I’m stocking up on popcorn and am planning on enjoying the show.

Deconstructing the ’90s Clinton Boom

March 28, 2008

By way of US News & World report, shining the light of reality on the last line of defense for Clintonites:

1) Clinton was dealt a great hand. The economy was entering its eighth quarter of expansion, oil was cheap (around $11 a barrel), inflation was low, there was greater certainty about the global economy because of the end of the Cold War, “and, of course, a tremendous set of new productivity-enhancing technologies involving information technologies and the World Wide Web burst on the scene.” Talk about starting on third base.

2) The economy did OK during Clinton’s first term. But it wasn’t spectacular. From 1993 through 1996, real gross domestic product grew at an average annual rate of 3.2 percent, employment rose by 11.6 million jobs, average hourly wages grew by 0.8 percent, and market capitalization rose by 78 percent in real terms.

3) But then the economy really kicked into gear. In 1997, Congress passed and Clinton signed (despite initial opposition) a modest capital-gains-tax cut, one that would be worth about $30 billion in today’s dollars after four years. This was not Reagan 2.0. Yet from 1997 through 2000, a period when the expansion should have shown its age, real GDP growth averaged 4.2 percent a year, 11.5 million more jobs were created, and real wages grew 6.5 percent. Oh, and the stock market doubled.

Much of the so-called “Clinton Economy” can be explained by the second half of this quote by Dennis Miller: “Bill and Hillary possess that rare blend of grade A Machiavellian caginess combined with the luck of a two-time Powerball winner”
