US President Praised for saving lives in Africa

July 12, 2009

Our Dear Leader visited Africa and had to deal with the locals praising former US President George W. Bush for his work in helping the people of Africa. Not the governments, mostly corrupt, but the people.

Our Dear Leader‘s legacy so far is screwing the pooch on what should have been an economic recovery and nominating a woman to the Supreme Court who makes racist statements that would have made George Wallace blush.

Delicious Snark on pirates in way over their heads

September 29, 2008

Tamara K. delivers this mornings yummy, yummy snark.

…when you climb aboard a ship and find it filled to the gunwales with 33 Ukrainian T-72 tanks destined for gawd-only-knows where, it might be prudent to just climb quietly back off and motor away, because that’s the sort of thievery that’s going to draw attention.

Now, it strikes me that the sort of people who go shipping half a battalion’s worth of main battle tanks around the seven seas are not the kind of people to take it lying down when their cargo goes missing. Boarding a ship and finding it full of tanks would be like burglarizing a house and finding a plaque on the mantlepiece “To Vinnie for faithful service. Love Don and the rest of the guys at La Cosa Nostra Enterprises”; the sensible criminal would just let himself out and apologize for the disturbance. Instead, our Somali rocket scientists are holed up on the boat and surrounded by warships.

The warships are there because the various governments of civilized and semi-civilized countries with interests in the area are wondering where the tanks were going. Kenya claims they purchased them at the big Labor Day Sale at Crazy Ivan’s Used Tank Lot, but seems to be having difficulty coming up with a receipt.

GW Bush more popular than Clinton

February 19, 2008

…in Africa. According to this Reuters article:

Banners across the route, decorated with Bush’s image against a backdrop of Tanzania’s Mt. Kilimanjaro, read: “We cherish democracy. Karibu (welcome) to President and Mrs Bush.”

Others read: “Thank you for helping fight malaria and HIV.” Dancers at the airport and at Kikwete’s state house to greet Bush on Sunday, wore skirts and shirts decorated with his face.

Bush has spent more money on aid to Africa than his predecessor, Bill Clinton, and is popular for his personal programs to fight AIDS and malaria and to help hospitals and schools.

Bush has stressed new-style partnerships with Africa based on trade and investment and not purely on aid handouts.

BJ Clinton traveled to Africa to play the bongos and sample the local girls. Hillary used to take Chelsea there tax payer funded vacations and photo ops.

George W. Bush actually does good for the people of Africa, which is more than most of their own governments (and the United Nations) does.
