The worst President in the past 50 years…

September 30, 2006

…hands down, it is with out a quesiton, Jimmy Carter.
As Victor Davis Hanson says:

“In his dotage, Carter is proving once again that he is as malicious and mean-spirited a public figure as he is historically ignorant. And for all his sanctimonious Christian veneer, and fly-fishing, ‘aw shucks blue-jeans image, he can’t hide an essentially ungracious and unkind soul. . . . Carter’s Waterloo, of course was the Iranian hostage crisis. It was not just that his gutting of the military helped to explain the rescue disaster. Far more importantly, we can chart the rise of radical political Islam with the storming of the American embassy in Teheran and the impotent response of Jimmy Carter.”

LaRouchers in Havard Square

I was in Cambridge, Harvard Square to be precise, and the Moonbats where out in force. In this case it was the LaRouchers, who most sane democrats will back away slowly from while insisting that they have nothing to do with them.

Ace points out that that the IDF is actually demanding that UN Forces actually do their jobs!

The meeting went to pieces after the IDF demanded that UNIFIL adopt more combative rules of engagement. What particularly angered the IDF was an interview UNIFIL’s commander Maj.-General Alain Pellegrini gave to The Jerusalem Post last week and in which he said the peacekeeping force would not actively engage Hizbullah guerrillas even if they were on their way or in the midst of an attack against Israel.

Morning Quotes

September 27, 2006

I am for Socialism, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the state itself as an instrument of violence and compulsion. I seek social ownership of property… Communism is the goal. — Roger Baldwin, the founder and leading force in the ACLU until 1981

“I voted for the Democrats because I didn’t like the way the Republicans were running the country. Which is turning out to be like shooting yourself in the head to stop your headache.” — Jack Mayberry

“Marxists are never found under the bed. They are usually found in front of blackboards and behind desks.” — Doctor Susan Huck

“(A)nything not acting as a propaganda arm for the Democrats or the Leftist agenda is considered conservative these days.” — Tammy Bruce, The New American Revolution

“I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for…” — DNC Chairman Howard Dean

“You don’t need to be ‘straight’ to fight and die for your country. You just need to shoot straight.” — US Senator and Conservative Icon Barry Goldwater

HELP THE WORLD’S POOR… Ban Socialism. Unban DDT.

“But come on people, you do realize that when you put a ‘oil bad’ sticker on an SUV, you look like a flippen retard, right?” — Risawn

democrat Senator Robert Byrd, former Kleagle of the Ku Klux Klan, holds the distinction of being the only senator to have voted against both black nominees to the United States Supreme Court.

The morning the Deep Throat story broke, the voice on my answering machine was as raspy as Hal Holbrook’s. “I just want you to remember that I wrote ‘Follow the money,’ ” said my caller. “I want to know if anybody will give me credit. Watch for the accuracy of the media!”
The voice belonged to my friend William Goldman, who wrote the movie “All the President’s Men.” His words proved more than a little prescient. As if on cue, journalists everywhere – from The New York Times to The Economist to The Washington Post itself – would soon start attributing this classic line of dialogue to the newly unmasked Deep Throat, W. Mark Felt. But the line was not in Woodward and Bernstein’s book or in The Post’s Watergate reportage or in Bob Woodward’s contemporaneous notes. It was the invention of the author of “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “Marathon Man” and “The Princess Bride.”
— Frank Rich, New York Times, 6/12/05

“Speaking of shivering coatless girls in Bush’s America, spare a thought for the underprivileged urchins of the Bronx. The Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club, a nonprofit social-services organization in New York, receives millions of dollars in government funds to give disadvantaged youth in poor neighborhoods a leg up the ladder of life. But mysteriously much of the money wound up being diverted to the coffers of Air America, the liberal talk-radio network whose ratings are yet another example of “deferred success.” The needs of disadvantaged Al Franken and his pals apparently outweigh those of Bronx welfare recipients. Perhaps Janeane Garofalo is the coatless girl John Edwards was talking about all those months. Air America looks like the broadcast version of the U.N. Oil-for-Food program, whereby money earmarked to save starving moppets somehow winds up in the bank accounts of bloated self-described do-gooders with political connections.” — Mark Steyn

“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapon stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.” — Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

“Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime … He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction… So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real.” – Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

“It Takes a Village of liberals to Raise a Kid With A.D.H.D., Rage Issues, and an Eating Disorder.”

“Never trust anyone who calls himself a “libertarian socialist. They’re bound to be deeply confused, at best.” — Glenn Reynolds

“I think it’s hilarious (in a devious sort of way) that when there’s a left wing protest, Starbucks is one of the first to get the brick through their window.” — Rob

One more Clinton note…

September 25, 2006

Mickey Kaus points out that “Clinton was winning before he plowed on into paranoia about Rupert Murdoch and Fox.”

A fairly on target observation, as I stated before, the plain and simple truth is that Clinton did not put serious effort in combating terrorism because terror at the time didn’t poll well, and Clinton only paid more attention to Willard than he did polls.
Moving Terrorism defense from a domestic law enforcement issue to a national security issue wasn’t a line item on the House Republicans Contract with America. The At least I tried line was pretty good, then he went into moonbat conspiracy land.
Good for firing up the base who are sufferring from BDS already, but bad for gaining the support of centrist swing voters.

Is old Slick Willy losing his touch without the gentle guiding hand (or foot in this case) of HRC to kick his ass every day to keep him focused?

I also wonder if Slick Willy read Blackhawk Down or just saw the movie? The book by Mark Bowden makes it clear that al Qaeda operatives had taught Somali warlord Aideed’s men how to bring down U.S. helicopters with RPGs.
So much for Clinton’s claim that al Qaeda wasn’t involved in Somalia.

Howard Kurtz writes in detail on what he calls “Clinton’s Finger-Wagging Moment” that goes into detail on Clinton’s poor performance.

Update: Lori Byrd has a very good roundup.

He doth protest too much…

September 24, 2006

Bill Clinton, the amazing poll driven president, is obviously much more concerned about protecting his legacy than he was ever was about protecting the American people. The plain and simple truth is that he did not put serious effort in it because terror at the time didn’t poll well, and Clinton only paid more attention to Willard than he did polls.

Flopping Aces lists one clear example of where his current rage is more bluster

“Mr. bin Laden used to live in Sudan,” Clinton told the Long Island Association on Feb. 15, 2002.

“He was expelled from Saudi Arabia in 1991, then he went to Sudan. And we’d been hearing that the Sudanese wanted America to start dealing with them again.

“They released him. At the time, 1996, he had committed no crime against America so I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him, though we knew he wanted to commit crimes against America.

“So I pleaded with the Saudis to take him, ’cause they could have. But they thought it was a hot potato and they didn’t and that’s how he wound up in Afghanistan.”

Ace accurately points out that Clinton simply lies:

The man simply lies. It is a breathtakingly stupid and mendacious claim that rightwingers, as he calls us, actually opposed his weak single effort to get bin Ladin. Throughout the late nineties, I was apopleptic we weren’t doing anything at all about bin Ladin. We wanted more action. Not less.

The pretext for this lie is that rightwingers, myself included, did in fact “question the timing” of his one attempt to kill bin Ladin. It occurred, coindentally enough, during the Lewinsky furor. On the eve of some testimony; can’t remember which, and it really doesn’t matter.

Conservatives did not object to this attack. We were enraged, however, that the man refused to attack bin Ladin at all until he was motivated to action by a threat to his own political safety. We were not angry he’d attacked bin Ladin; we were angry he hadn’t attacked bin Ladin before (or after, actually; anyone remember a subsequent attack?).

We were angry that the man had let bin Ladin attack us with impunity for years until he saw it as a good move politically to finally launch a poorly-timed cruise missile at bin Ladin. He was animated to action not to save American lives, but to save his own fucking political life.

Curt at Flopping Aces sums it up:

Yes you failed Mr. Clinton. You failed repeatedly for 8 years. This is why your Presidency will go down as a failure. You let us down and for that we all should be ashamed that we elected you to that chair.
