How it works…

February 28, 2006

Found on Say Anything:

1. Someone leaks potential Republican damaging issue to Press.

2. Press runs story endlessly with just enough fact to make it look bad.

3. Public opinion polls are conducted with the majority of people only getting information from 30 second sound bites.

4. Opinion polls look bad for administration so they become part of the story.

5. Enraged public forgets about issue to find out who’s winning on American Idol.

6. Issue is vetted, to the satisfaction of most but for the lunatic fringe.

7. Rinse.

8. Repeat.

9. If need be, release old story as new news.

A couple of quick movie reviews

February 27, 2006

I watched Doom last night. I was not impressed. If you want to see a good movie with Mr. Johnson in it, watch The Rundown. He gives a very good performance with Sean William Scott and Christopher Walken.

One the plus side, I saw a nice Korean action movie over the weekend 2009: Lost Memories. It could have had a good five minutes edited out, but over all it was a good action flick. Not as good as Shiri, but that was a damn good movie.
It’s an alternate history movie, so there is a slice of SciFi in it.

U.S. Marine Ambushed!

February 26, 2006

Ambushed by none other than the DNC. Before you start on how this is another Right Wing attack job, take a look at the source article. Mother Jones News, an independent and extremely Left Wing publication.

Marine Corps Major Paul Hackett wanted to run for the US Senate as a democrat in Ohio. The problem was that the DNC wants seven-term Akron Democrat Rep. Sherrod Brown to run against the incumbent Republican Senator. According the Mother Jones News, weapons used to take Hackett out of the primary race “included economic sabotage, whisper campaigns, and threats.”
Here are some highlights from the article:

Hackett, an Iraq War combat veteran, was hailed last summer as just the kind of “fighting Democrat” the party needed to reinvigorate its base and end its years in the congressional wilderness.

A whisper campaign started: Hackett committed war crimes in Iraq—and there were photos. “The first rumor that I heard was probably a month and a half ago,” Dave Lane, chair of the Clermont County Democratic Party, told me the day after Hackett pulled out of the race. “I heard it more than once that someone was distributing photos of Paul in Iraq with Iraqi war casualties with captions or suggestions that Paul had committed some sort of atrocities.

In late November, Hackett got a call from Sen. Harry Reid. “I hear there’s a photo of you mistreating bodies in Iraq. Is it true?” demanded the Senate minority leader.

Sen. Schumer was also reported to be trying to turn off Hackett’s cash spigots. No one would confirm this to me on the record. But veteran political activist David Mixner, who described himself as “a fanatically strong supporter” of Hackett and who helped sponsor a New York fundraiser, confirmed that he “received calls from a couple people in Congress urging Paul Hackett to withdraw or not to contribute money to his campaign.

Hackett was infuriated by the subterfuge. “I felt like I got fucked by the Democratic Party because they enticed me in and then they pulled the rug out from beneath me.”

The view on the ground in Iraq

February 26, 2006

Captain Ed points out what’s actually going on in Iraq, and what isn’t, despite the desperate wishes of the DNC & MSM.

Despite the best attempt so far by outside provocateurs, the bombing of the Askariya shrine in Samarra has not resulted in a civil war. Iraqi bloggers such as Iraq the Model and Healing Iraq report that violence continues, but that the Sunnis have not risen up at all; they have not taken advantage of this supposed opening by launching their anticipated attack on the central government. Imams of both sects have called for a stop to the violence and unity in the face of foreign attacks by Zarqawi terrorists.

Civil war remains a distinct possibility, but it has not yet happened. It hasn’t happened in Ireland or in Northern Ireland, despite the kind of hatreds that have existed for centuries in those places as well. Not all violence is war, and not all violence means defeat. Insurgents and provocateurs sometimes succeed in their aims, but it is still too early to declare them the victors in Iraq as it is in Dublin.

Update: Sunnis and Shiites in Iraq make peace. According to The Australian News:

“THE movement of Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, alleged to have played a role in the anti-Sunni violence over the last few days, publicly made peace with political and religious Sunni leaders overnight.

Four sheikhs from the Sadr movement made a “pact of honour” with the conservative Sunni Muslim Scholars Association, and called for an end to attacks on places of worship, the shedding of blood and condemning any act leading to sedition.”

Watch out Howard!

February 26, 2006

Is Opra going for Howard Stern’s audience? Ok, it’s not Anal Ring Toss, but according to this post by Matt Drudge, Opra does get down and dirty with some guests on her show.

Oprah interviewed a woman on Thursday who had engaged in sex with more than 90 men during her life and who was keeping an ongoing list and a video diary about these encounters!

Not to be confused with Howard Stern, Oprah asked: “So you’ve had men ejaculate in your face?”

The February Sweeps sex special from the nation’s top talkshow host, titled “Guests discuss their sex addictions,” raised eyebrows with industry watchers.

“You’ve had, you know, men ejaculating in your face who you don’t even know who they are,” asked daytime Winfrey.

Ok, first off, Stern has played clips from Opra on his show before, asking why she doesn’t get grief from the FCC for discussing, in detail, salad tossing and Rainbow Parties.
Second, didn’t Kevin Smith cover the sexual video diary thing in Mall Rats aready?

Ok, the Kirk/Spock one was a given…

American Bikers to the rescue!

February 22, 2006

CNN reports about a group of motorcyclists who travel the country cheering respectuflly at military funerals to block the anti-gay protests held by Fred Phelps and his band of pseudo-Christians.

The bikers shield the families of dead soldiers from the protesters, and overshadow the jeers with patriotic chants and a sea of red, white and blue flags.

“The most important thing we can do is let families know that the nation cares,” said Don Woodrick, the group’s Kentucky captain. “When a total stranger gets on a motorcycle in the middle of winter and drives 300 miles to hold a flag, that makes a powerful statement.”

To Mr. Woodrick’s group and the Patriot Guard, I say Thank You.
