The folks at National Lampoon, yup, that National Lampoon, instead of working on the next Van Wilder straight to video release, have gotten into a spot of trouble.

According to the AP:

Federal prosecutors in Philadelphia have filed charges against the CEO and other executives at National Lampoon Inc., accusing the executives of trying to artificially inflate the company’s stock price.
…
Prosecutors on Monday filed three indictments and an information charging seven people with conspiracy and securities fraud.

This wouldn’t have happened if P.J. O’Rourke was still there.

OK, it would have happened, but he would have made sure they weren’t so sloppy.

A view into Obama’s Chicago

Barak Obama is a product of the Chicago democrat political machine. The same political machine that produced this out of control violent crime problem.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Wednesday raised the possibility of bringing in state troopers or even the Illinois National Guard to help Chicago combat a recent increase in violent crime — an offer that Mayor Richard Daley didn’t know was coming.

Appearing at signing ceremony for a bill that toughens the penalty for adults who provide guns to minors, Blagojevich said “violent crime in the city of Chicago is out of control.”

“I’m offering resources of the state to the city to work in a constructive way with Mayor Daley to do everything we can possibly do to help … stop this violence,” said the governor…

…The governor’s comments come at a time when violent crime has spiked in Chicago. This spring, for example, nine people were killed in 36 shootings during a weekend and Chicago Public Schools officials say more than two dozen students have been killed by gunfire since last September.

Perhaps Barak H. Obama understands that this a forecast for what America can expect from his administration. That is why he is calling for “a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded,” as our national military.

That is exactly the kind of oppressive standing Army that the founding fathers were so set against. These seems like a clear attempt to perform a run around the Posse Comitatus Act.

Ok, not yet, I’m just getting ahead of myself. Hillary’s corrupt fundraiser, Norman Hsu has been indicted by a federal grand jury on cheating investors and using that money to make illegal campaign contributions (all to democrats)
The AP reported the story:

A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted Norman Hsu, a top Democratic fundraiser accused of cheating investors of at least $20 million and using some of the money to make illegal donations to political campaigns.

In the 15-count indictment returned in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, the government accused the 56-year-old clothing-industry entrepreneur of duping investors nationwide with a massive Ponzi scheme.

The Financial Times has a write up on the green version of Three Card Monty

A Financial Times investigation has uncovered widespread failings in the new markets for greenhouse gases, suggesting some organisations are paying for emissions reductions that do not take place.

Others are meanwhile making big profits from carbon trading for very small expenditure and in some cases for clean-ups that they would have made anyway.

The FT investigation found:

■ Widespread instances of people and organisations buying worthless credits that do not yield any reductions in carbon emissions.

■ Industrial companies profiting from doing very little – or from gaining carbon credits on the basis of efficiency gains from which they have already benefited substantially.

■ Brokers providing services of questionable or no value.

■ A shortage of verification, making it difficult for buyers to assess the true value of carbon credits.

■ Companies and individuals being charged over the odds for the private purchase of European Union carbon permits that have plummeted in value because they do not result in emissions cuts.

Francis Sullivan, environment adviser at HSBC, the UK’s biggest bank that went carbon-neutral in 2005, said he found “serious credibility concerns” in the offsetting market after evaluating it for several months.

“The police, the fraud squad and trading standards need to be looking into this. Otherwise people will lose faith in it,” he said.

People loosing faith in the cult of Algore would be a damn good thing.

democrat staffer busted in D.C. for gun law violation

Remember that D.C. has had a handgun ban (and record crime rates) since 1976

WASHINGTON (AP) – An aide to Sen. Jim Webb [democrat] was arrested Monday when he entered a Senate office building with a loaded pistol belonging to the senator.

Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said the aide was charged with carrying a pistol without a license and possessing an unregistered firearm and unregistered ammunition.

The office of Webb, D-Va., identified the aide as Phillip Thompson and said he was “a former Marine, a long-term friend and trusted employee of the senator.”

The weapon was revealed when the aide went through an X-ray machine at an entrance of the Russell Senate Office Building, Schneider said. She said the man had a loaded pistol with two additional loaded magazines.

The mounting death toll…

Over 9000 American men, women and children are killed each year by illegal aliens.

According to this report:

• 13 Americans are killed each day by uninsured drunk driving illegals
• 12 U.S. citizens are killed by illegal aliens each day in the commission of violent crimes

That is a yearly death toll over three times the number of US troops killed in the active war zone of Iraq since the invasion.
